The Irish Rugby Football Union has distributed a total of IEP125,000 in a new and rewarding initiative for schools and clubs.

The Irish Rugby Football Union has distributed a total of IEP 125,000 in a new and rewarding initiative for schools and clubs.

The money is being allocated in respect of players who attain professional status and is designed to recognise and reward the contribution by schools and clubs in the development of those players.

Eddie Wigglesworth, Director of Rugby Development, says “The financial rewards are distributed on a one-off basis in respect of the in-put by schools and clubs into the development of players who advance to professional contract status with the Provinces. The IRFU sees the initiative as an important element in the development of players from
schools and clubs into the professional game and a vital link in the relationship between our professional teams and our club structure.”

The Reward for Development Programme for the current season takes account of 16 players offered IRFU contracts for the first time as a consequence of which 12 schools are in receipt of a total of IEP 36,585 and 19 clubs receive sums totalling IEP 88,992.
