On the day that the Ulster Branch announced 29 of the players contracted for the season 2002/03, Paddy Johns announced his retirement from representative rugby & Warren Brosnihan confirmed his two year deal with the province.

The former Springbok, who will join them on the March 1st said, “I am delighted with the opportunity to go and play rugby in Ulster. Most of the South African players who have opted to further their rugby career overseas have always come back with very positive feedback and I look forward to the experience of playing in Ireland. I have
thoroughly enjoyed my time at Natal but ever since playing in Australia as an U21 I have always wanted to return overseas and feel that the time has now come for me to explore additional opportunities.”

” I am still in the prime of my career and retain a strong desire to compete for and win trophies at the highest level. I believe that Ulster, under Alan
Solomons are a team capable of achieving these goals in both the Celtic and European arenas and I am excited about upcoming challenges”.
