The Irish Tag Rugby Association together with the Irish Rugby Football Union are now launching the third year of TAG RUGBY SUMMER LEAGUE in Ireland!
Our leagues run from June 10th until 1st August 2002. We have Competitive Max’ Leagues, Mixed Social’ Leagues (men & women) and Veterans +35 League (St. Mary’s only). Teams play during the summer evenings mid-week from 19h30-21h00 once a week.
Tag Rugby is the NEW recreational summer sport to hit Ireland! It is a very enjoyable and easy to follow sport. It can be played at any level, with both males and females equally taking part and getting fit at the same time! It especially appeals to those people who have never played rugby before, as it is a non-contact free flowing game which compliments a range of other sports with extra emphasis on skill and teamwork!
The idea is to score a try across the opposition line. The defenders have to pull a velcro’ tag off an attacking player’s belt, to force that player to pass the ball. Each team has five tags’ in which to score a try. There is no physical contact.
The social aspect of tag rugby is very important, and we have BBQ’s after each night, with all teams able to socialise in the clubhouse afterwards.
Teams can find out all about tag rugby and register their teams through our website www.tagrugby.com.
The last two summers have been such a major success that this year we are expanding our venues to Dublin (Old Belvedere RFC, St. Mary’s Coll RFC, ALSAA Sports Complex), Limerick (Garryowen RFC), Belfast (Lisburn RFC), Cork (Highfield RFC).
