Leicester Lllanlli Heineken Cup Semi Sold Out

The Heineken Cup semi-final between defending champions Leicester Tigers and Llanelli on Sunday, 28 April is a sell-out – almost five weeks before the giant Anglo-Welsh club clash.

All 29,500 tickets for the match at the City Ground, Nottingham, have gone to make it the highest attended semi-final in the seven-year history of the tournament.

The clubs have each sold close to 13,000 tickets, ensuring that 85 per cent of all tickets have gone to Tigers and Scarlets fans for the ground-breaking first rugby match played at Nottingham Forest’s stadium.

“We have been delighted by the support of the Welsh rugby public – not just
from Llanelli, but all over Wales – for this huge match,” said Stuart Gallacher, the Llanelli Chief Executive.

“Our decision to support the team with the offer of free coach travel to
the semi-final demonstrates the club’s commitment to both the team and supporters in ensuring we have as many fans in Nottingham as Leicester.”

Peter Wheeler, the Leicester Chief Executive, declared: “We are delighted it is a sell-out, the atmosphere should be fantastic for such an important
game. We are just disappointed that all our supporters will not be able to be at the semi-final as we could have sold at least another 7,000 tickets.”

The City Ground will be opening its turnstiles to rugby fans for the first time and Derek McGrath, Chief Executive of ERC, added: “Nottingham Forest have been bowled over by the huge interest in the match, it is a new venture for them and everyone at the club is eagerly looking forward to the occasion.”

And although the identities of the Heineken Cup finalists is still in the
balance – Castres Olympique meet Munster in Beziers on Saturday, 27 April in the other semi-final – ticket sales for the Heineken Cup final at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday, 25 May have already topped the 12,500 mark.
