Munster Open Day in Thomond Park

15/05/02. Hundreds of schoolchildren plus members of the general public are expected to converge on Thomond Park this afternoon (4pm) to meet members of the Munster squad.

Munster RDO, John Lacey (pictured), himself a member of the Heineken Cup final squad, is expecting huge numbers to turn up as the squad present themselves for an autographh signing session,
“We’d expect a huge turn-out as all schools and youth clubs in Limerick and the surrrounding areas have been informed. Last year, for the semi-final, we had 8 coaches parked in the ground while others just dropped off their passengers and collected them later.” said Lacey, who played a central role in Shannon’s recent AIB League final victory.
“Earlier this year we had the Irish team here and there was a huge gathering but I’d expect an even bigger turn out today.”

Most of the Munster side will train with the Irish squad this morning in the final national session before assembling in Thomond for what will effectively be the beginning of their final preparations for the clash with Leicester Tigers.

Concern still surround Paul O’Connell, Anthony Horgan, Anthony Foley and Jim Williams while Rob Henderson skipped training yesterday with a slight heel injury in a measure that was described as purely precautionary.
