Timaruians Set To Weigh In Behind Irish

08/06/02. South Cantebury RFC General Manager Wally Bellexpects a crowd of over 5000 to turn up at the Alpine Energy Stadium tonight for Ireland’s tour opener (kick-off 5.05 local time).

Bell also anticipates that the crowd will weigh in behind the Irish. “Yes, I believe you people will be surprised by the support you’ll receive. There is no South Cantebury player on the side and besides that it seems you guys have certainly won over the people of Timaru in the short time you’ve been here.”

The game will be played in ideal conditions and reports from the Irish camp tell of a positive cautiously confident attitude among the players.

This morning after a relatively late breakfast, the forwards were put through their line-out drills in the car park opposite the hotel. Lunch is scheduled for 1.30pm and the squad will leave for the stadium at 3.30pm.
