Leinster went one step closer to realising a place in the European Cup Final with a win over Monteferrand on a scoreline of 12-9.
In a tough encounter, Leinster emerged victors over the French side with a 12-9 win at Donnybrook. Monteferrand opened the scoring with a penalty early in the first half, which was soon negated by a Brian O Meara penalty after five minutes to bring the score to 3-3. The sides remained even until O Meara scored again to bring the score to 6-3. half time Monteferrand went in with a three point advantage leaving the score at 6-9.
Again in the second half, all the points were scored from penalty kicks, with Leinster and Monteferrand trading points until Leinster emerged victors on a scoreline of 12-9. Leinster remain top of their group, undefeated to date in their Heineken Cup campaign.
In other action tonight, a late try from USA international backrower Dave Hodges gave Llanelli a 17-12 victory over Sharks in a tense and often bad-tempered Heineken Cup pool encounter at Stradey Park. (source planetrugby.com)
