Out-half Ronan O’Gara scored 32 of his side’s points as Ireland wound up their summer tour in impressive fashion, beating Samoa 40-12 in Apia Park on Friday. Although the home side scored the first try through wing Ron Fanuatanu, it was O’Gara who kept the Irish in front going into the break with three first half penalties.
He added a fourth after the break to stretch the lead to five points (12-7) and then scored the first of two tries shortly after.
Eric Miller scored Ireland’s second try from a charge down and O’Gara was in support of Gordon D’Arcy to score the third, departing the scene – to make way for Paul Burke – after landing a spectacular drop-goal.
