Looking Good For Lansdowne Road Development

On the issue of a national stadium, the Government is expected to make a decision, possibly before the end of this month, with a new development at Lansdowne Road looking increasingly likely

It’s being reported in the media that on the issue of a national stadium, the Government is expected to make a decision very soon, possibly before the end of this month, with a new development at Lansdowne Road looking increasingly likely. This speculation has been fuelled by remarks made in the past week by Taoiseach Mr Bertie Ahearn and by the Tanaiste Ms Mary Harney which suggest that the Government will opt for the proposal put forward by the IRFU and FAI to build a 50,000 seater stadium at Lansdowne Road.

The Minister for Arts, Tourism and Sport, Mr John O’Donoghue, is to bring two options to the Cabinet, one, a 65,000-seater stadium in Abbotstown or the the IRFU proposal, supported by the FAI, for a 250 million stadium at Lansdowne Road.
