Making the most of their opportunities early on and then producing a resolute defensive display helped Ireland Schools to a 12-8 victory over England Schools at Kingston Park in Newcastle.

Barry O’Mahony touched down for a first half try which Robert Kearney converted and they increased their lead through a Sean Cronin try mid-way into the second half, a score that was created by good approach work from scrum-half Duncan Williams.

The home side opened their account with a penalty from full back Ryan Davis and they scored a late try when Joe Ansbro touched down in the closing stages.
