Irish Schools made to fight for for 24-11 win over Queensland

In a game played in perfect conditions in front of a big crowd at the Anglican Church Grammar School in Brisbane the Ireland team was made to work hard for a well earned victory over a talented Queensland Schools’ team.

The home team opened the game strongly and Ireland found themselves 3 points down after only 2 minutes when Queensland kicked a penalty following an Irish infringement at a lineout.

This setback spurred the Irish boys into action and after a period of pressure on the Queensland line, Ireland opened their account when flanker Barry O’Mahoney crossed the line for a well taken try. This score was converted by Conor Gildea to give the Irish boys a 7-3 lead.

The hosts at Anglican Church Grammar have looked after the team superbly well and our thanks are due to all the host families organised by David Grogan and Bruce Hodges, both staff members at the school.
