Uncapped Toulouse centre Benoit Baby could play some part for France in Saturday’s RBS Six Nations clash with Ireland, after being drafted in as a replacement for injured star Damien Traille.

France coach Bernard Laporte – who watched the tournament champions crash to a 24-18 defeat at the hands of Wales on February 26 – was forced to call up the 21-year-old after Traille fell victim to an ankle injury.

Biarritz powerhouse Traille had originally been due to take part in Saturday’s IRB Rugby Aid match at Twickenham but was forced to withdraw when his right ankle flared up.

The French medical staff believe that his injury is in part due to too much training on artificial surfaces.

Traille’s first Test outing in eleven months – due to similar ankle problems – saw him score a crucial late try in France’s opening RBS Six Nations win last month, as Laporte’s charges edged Scotland 16-9.
