An Bord Pleanala has given the go-ahead for the redevelopment of the IRFU grounds at Donnybrook – the regular home of Leinster Rugby.

The plan includes a new main stand, clubhouse, retail units, aprtments, crhche facilities, tennis courts and a walkway along the river Dodder, while it will also see the demolition of the existing Bective Rangers Football and Bective Lawn Tennis clubhouse/pavilion and the existing main viewing stand.

The planning body rejected objections from local resident associations and individuals, although they did place 29 restrictions on the decision. The restrictions include the stipulations that permission is for seven years, and no more than three of the residential blocks shall be constructed before the new main stand has been completed.

The objections originally came when Dublin City Council granted planning permission last October for the redevelopment of the Dublin 4 stadium.
