Injury concerns over Paul O’Connell and David Humphreys have seen Trevor Hogan (Munster) and Robert Kearney (Leinster) promoted to the Ireland training squad as cover.
The injuries to O’Connell (hand) and Humphreys (ankle) were picked up during this weekend’s Celtic League action, but both are not thought to be serious. Both players will be monitored during the Ireland squad’s three-day training camp this week in Dublin.
O’Connell’s Munster team mate Hogan, who won his first two caps for Ireland during the summer tour to Japan, will join up with the squad today as will the new face to the squad – Leinster winger Kearney.
The former Clongowes Wood schoolboy captained the Ireland Under-19s throughout last summer’s World Cup in South Africa and has had an impressive start to the season, scoring three tries in his first three competitive outings for his province.
