Two-time finalists Munster have received the back of irishrugby.ie users to finish best of the provinces in this season’s Heineken Cup.
We asked you in our latest poll: “Which of the provinces are you backing for Heineken Cup glory?”
And despite defeat in their Pool One opener against Sale, Munster, thanks to last Saturday’s emphatic five-try 42-16 win over Castres at Thomond Park, seem on course to make the Heineken Cup’s knockout stages for an eight successive year.
Quite an achievement for the men in red, but there’s still a long way to go until the quarter-finals, and also the leadership of the Celtic League to contend with too.
Delcan Kidney’s side polled 44% (1854 votes) to finish first in our latest poll. Ulster, who currently lie second in the Celtic League and second in Heineken Cup Pool Four to Saracens, came home second with 36% (1533) of the vote, while, somewhat surprisingly, Michael Cheika’s Leinster only gained 19% (823).
Surprising given the fact that they sit second in Pool Five, armed with six points – one more than both Munster and Ulster. But will it get sticky for Cheika’s men in December when they face back-to-back fixtures against French side Bourgoin?
Thank you to the 4210 of you that voted.
