In Pics: Munster 17 Ulster 20
Click here for photos from Ulster’s 20-17 Celtic League defeats of leaders Munster at Musgrave Park on Saturday night.
Pictured above: Ulster fly-half David Humphreys gets to grips with Munster flanker David Wallace, whose 66th-minute try gave the home side hope of a comeback win. It was not to be for Wallace and company as Ulster dug their heels in for a famous win – repeating their 16-15 league success at the same Cork venue in October 2003.
Ulster number eight Roger Wilson carries forward as Munster centre Trevor Halstead (12) gets set for a tackle. Wilson and his team mates wore black armbands in remembrance of former Manchester United and Northern Ireland soccer star George Best, one of Ulster’s favourite sons, whose funeral took place in east Belfast on Saturday morning.
Ulster flanker Neil Best, with ball in hand, is hit hard by Trevor Halstead. Best has been in fine try-scoring form of late – bagging four Celtic League tries and two Heineken Cup tries to date this season as well as his first ever try for Ireland last Saturday against Romania.
Young centre Andrew Trimble getting downward pressure to his try – Ulster’s opening seven-pointer on 14 minutes. It was Trimble’s fourth try in seven league outings this season, which is only the 21-year-old’s second in the senior Ulster squad. Trimble had an unforgettable last two weeks which included his Ireland senior debut against Australia and his brace of tries against Romania on November 26.
Munster scrum half Peter Stringer tries to clear his lines under pressure from Ulster hooker Rory Best and scrum half Kieran Campbell (right). All three players were capped during Ireland’s autumn International series last month.
