GALWEGIANS 29 LANSDOWNE 16, Crowley Park

Scorers: Galwegians: Tries: Brian Murphy, Ambrose Conboy; Cons: Brendan Bartley 2; Pens: Bartley 5

Lansdowne: Try: Fiachra Baynes; Con: Corey Burt; Pens: Burt 3

Paul Young’s side sit third-from-bottom after picking up the points in a lively game that witnessed seven sin-binnings.

‘Wegians centre Brian Murphy and Lansdowne winger Fiachra Baynes swapped tries in a first half which ended 16-13 in the hosts’ favour.

Corey Burt could only add one more penalty for Lansdowne after the restart as Conboy’s effort, allied to two more penalties from full-back Brendan Bartley – he kicked five in all for a 19-point haul – saw ‘Wegians to victory.

Munster referee Peter Roche dished out yellow cards to Lansdowne back rows David Lavin and Jim O’Donovan before the hour mark and in the final 14 minutes, ‘Wegians’ lost try-scorer Murphy and Connacht-contracted duo Michael Swift and Dan McFarland to the bin.

Then, in the 13th-minute of injury-time, ‘Wegians winger Peter Phelan and his Lansdowne counterpart Neil Walsh were also given their marching orders.
