Following a scan on his shoulder yesterday (Sunday), there are doubts surrounding the fitness of Ireland lock Paul O’Connell for Sunday week’s RBS 6 Nations clash with Wales.

The injury has been confirmed as a shoulder A/C (acromio-clavicular) joint strain. O’Connell picked up the injury in the game against France on Saturday but played through the pain barrier as he helped to inspire Ireland’s second half fight back.

The injury will require rehabilitation over the next week, at which point a further assessment of the injury will be made.

An update on O’Connell’s injury will be given in a week’s time.
