An initiative has been launched to expand The Friends of the Charitable Trust – the registered IRFU charity founded with the aim of helping seriously injured Irish rugby players – with the introduction of a “Clubs” membership.

Every rugby club in Ireland is being invited to support the project at a cost of 250 / Stg#175.

Each participating club will be given a special plaque for display in their clubhouse and the unique Friends of the Charitable Trust tie will also be provided for the use of the club President.

In endorsing the move to raise further monies for the Charitable Trust for seriously injured rugby players, IRFU President Andy Crawford said: This is a most worthy cause for the welfare of those unfortunate enough to sustain permanent injuries in our game. Therefore it is an initiative in which all in Irish rugby be invited to participate.

“The Charitable Trust is in receipt of an annual grant from the IRFU, but in face of increasing costs to help provide the best assistance for injured players by way of locomotory expenses, house alterations or extensions, wheelchairs, beds or lifting equipment, carts and vans, and assistance for caring costs, it is necessary that additional funding be sought.”
