Connacht have named their team for Friday’s Challenge Cup quarter-final against Newcastle Falcons with their only doubt surrounding the availability of out-half Paul Warwick.

Former Australian Sevens captain Warwick has a hamstring injury and is rated at “50-50” to start the Kingston Park tie (7.30pm, live Sky Sports 2). David Slemen, son of former England and Lions winger Mike, stands by to start in the number 10 shirt. If Warwick fails a fitness test, then Ted Robinson is expected to come onto the bench also.

Connacht coach Michael Bradley has named his side for the province’s fourth European quarter-final in as many seasons.

Keith Matthews and Stephen Knoop have returned from injury and both start. Centre-cum-winger Darren Yapp misses the game with a hamstring injury so from the side that beat Borders in the Celtic League last week, Mark McHugh reverts to full-back and his fellow former Irish international Matt Mostyn goes to the right wing.

The one change in the pack sees the fit-again Knoop come in for Adrian Clarke.

CONNACHT (v Newcastle Falcons): Mark McHugh; Matt Mostyn, Andrew Mailei, Keith Matthews, Conor McPhillips; Paul Warwick/David Slemen, Chris Keane; Ray Hogan, John Fogarty, Stephen Knoop, David Gannon, Andrew Farley (capt), John Muldoon, Matt Lacey, Colm Rigney.

Replacements: Joe Merrigan, Adrian Clarke, Christian Short, Michael Swift, Tom Tierney, Paul Warwick/David Slemen/Ted Robinson, Gavin Williams.
