Peter Boyle, President, IRFU today welcomed the decision of Dublin City Council to grant planning permission for the proposed re-development of Lansdowne Road.
“The Irish Rugby Football Union warmly welcomes the notification from Dublin City Council of their decision to grant planning for the re-development of Lansdowne Road, while respecting that there remains some way to go in the process.”
Permission was granted last night by Dublin City Council. There are a number of conditions attached to the planning permission but a spokesman for the Lansdowne Road Stadium Development Company (LRDSC) said that the council’s decision comes within the proposed development schedule and that construction should commence as planned in early 2007.

IRFU President Peter Boyle also commented: “The importance of this project for the future well being of the whole of Irish rugby can not be overstated.
Significant progress has already been made at the half way point in the IRFU’s four year Strategic Plan and the potential presented by the new stadium is a key element in that mission.
