With the start of the IRB Women’s Rugby World Cup just over three weeks away, the Irish squad have been continuing their preparations with a residency camp at Rockwell College.

Philip Doyle’s panel of players recently went to the Tipperary venue for four days of training and bonding exercises.

On one of the nights, the whole squad, including the team management, actually camped outside, setting up their tents and undertaking a range of team building and bonding activities.

The actual rugby training was very intense with players taking every opportunity to impress with the tournament in Canada edging ever closer.

This camp, along with two others in Cill Dara during July, has helped the coaching staff put together their final plans for the World Cup campaign.

The Ireland Women’s side has a pre-tournament warm-up match against Scotland next Sunday (August 13) at Currie RFC (just outside Edinburgh), then a farewell function at Lansdowne Road Stadium on Saturday, August 26.

The only disappointing aspect of the preparations to date has been a shoulder injury sustained by centre Patrique Kelly at the first session. Kelly looks unlikely to recover in time for Edmonton and her UL Bohemians and Munster team mate Mairead Kelly has been drafted into the squad.
