Miller back on the pitch

Former Ireland and Leinster star Eric Miller has been back on the pitch, but this time he was lining out for Ballyboden St. Endas.

…Eric Miller is applauded by his Leinster team mates as he leaves the pitch in his final game with the province…

Former Leinster and Ireland rugby star Eric Miller rolled back the years on Tuesday night as he traded an oval ball for a round one.

Miller, who retired from competitive rugby in May, rekindled his Gaelic football career as he came on as a substitute for Ballyboden St. Enda’s in a Dublin AFL Division One game.

The 1997 Lion was introduced with a quarter-of-an-hour remaining in Ballyboden’s 1-12 to 1-6 defeat by Thomas Davis at Kiltipper Road.

Miller, 30, had quite an influence as a target man as he won a late penalty – but the big back row squandered the spot kick, hitting it off the outside of the post.

He operated as a full-forward when winning a Dublin Under-21 championship medal with Ballyboden in the mid-nineties.

Speaking towards the end of his last rugby season, Miller said: “Hopefully, I’m not finished with sport. I’ll play a bit of Gaelic football, and go back to the club (Ballyboden).

“It would be nice to play, just for a bit of craic.”
