Ian Keatley’s late penalty saw Leinster beat Ulster 20-18 to lift the IRFU Under-20 Interprovincial title at a sodden Dubarry Park on Saturday.
IRFU U-20 INTERPROVINCIAL FINAL: Saturday, September 23
LEINSTER 20 ULSTER 18, Dubarry Park
Scorers: Leinster: Tries: Felix Jones, Vasily Artemiev; Cons: Ian Keatley 2; Pens: Keatley 2
Ulster: Tries: Chris Bruce, Darren Cave; Con: Owen McMurray; Pens: McMurray, Niall O’Connor
UCD student Keatley held his nerve to right-foot over in the dying seconds and see Phil Orr’s side complete a Lazarus-like comeback.
Ulster went 15-0 in front thanks to tries from centre Darren Cave and winger Chris Bruce, and Owen McMurray’s conversion and penalty.
But full-back Felix Jones touched down for Leinster just before the break and they controlled much of the second half with Vasily Artemiev’s try and Keatley’s kicking excellence – he tallied up 10 points – completing a famous win.
