Willie Staunton landed a last-gasp drop goal as Munster claimed a 16-13 victory over Connacht and third place in the IRFU Under-20 Interprovincial Championship.

IRFU U-20 INTERPROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP: Saturday, September 23

CONNACHT 13 MUNSTER 16, Dubarry Park

Scorers: Connacht: Try: Paul Donohue; Con: Aidan Wynne; Pens: Wynne 2

Munster: Try: Keith Earls; Con: Willie Staunton; Pens: Staunton 2; Drop: Staunton

Garryowen winger Staunton settled Saturday’s third-fourth place play-off at Dubarry Park, taking an opportunistic shot at the posts, right on full-time.

Munster pushed into a 10-3 lead at the break with centre Keith Earls’ try adding to an early Staunton penalty.

Former Blackrock College star Aidan Wynne landed a penalty for Connacht just before half-time and levelled the game at 13-13 with 20 minutes to go, converting flanker Paul Donohue’s touch down and adding another penalty.

However, a brace of Staunton strikes book-ended the second half.
