Ulster returned to their winning ways at Hughenden on Saturday with a three-try victory over Glasgow. The Warriors fought hard and were still in contention going into the final quarter. But tries for Neil Best and Tommy Bowe, added to Rory Best’s first-half effort, saw the Magners League leaders return to form.

MAGNERS LEAGUE: Saturday, January 6

Glasgow Warriors 8 Ulster 19, Hughenden

Scorers: Galsgow: Try: Andy Newman; Pen: Dan Parks

Ulster: Tries: Simon Best, Neil Best, Tommy Bowe; Con: Paddy Wallace (2)

Glasgow dominated the possession throughout and were still in the hunt going into the last quarter. But two tries in two second-half minutes for Neil Best and Tommy Bowe sealed the game for Ulster, preventing Glasgow from achieving their seventh straight home success.

Hooker Rory Best was Ulster’s other try scorer midway through the first half. Converted by Paddy Wallace, these seven points were the only of the opening 40 minutes as the visitors’ defence held firm against Glasgow’s offensive effort.

Dan Parks got Glasgow on the board four minutes into the second period with a penalty. But just as the Warriors were upping ther intensity in pursuit of the comeback Ulster struck on the hour, firstly through Best and then Bowe.

Wallace converted to stretch the lead to 16 and effectively secure the points.

Nevertheless Glasgow substitute Andy Newman had the last word on the stroke of full-time when he scored a consolation try.
