AIB Cup Preview: Terenure College v Clonakilty

History will be made at Lakelands Park on Saturday afternoon as Terenure College and Clonakilty clash for the very first time in AIB League or Cup competition.

Terenure College – Notes: *They have played three Munster clubs already this season, two of them at Lakelands Park, and lost two of these three games – they are one of three Leinster teams that are pitched against Munster opposition in the AIB Cup quarter-finals
*They qualified for the last-eight by winning Section A of the Leinster Senior League Cup earlier this season
*This game is the only Division One v Division Two duel in the cup quarter-finals – Terenure have never played Clonakilty before in league or cup
*They beat Malone 12-7 in the first round at Lakelands Park on January 13 and have won their last four league and cup games
*Currently in eleventh place in AIB League Division One, they also reached the cup’s quarter-final stage last season where they lost 35-21 at home to St. Mary’s College

Clonakilty – Notes: *They boast an excellent AIB League record at home to clubs from Leinster – winning 19 of 36 games – but have won only three times on their 16 league visits to the eastern province
*They are one of three Munster clubs in the AIB Cup quarter-finals and have won their last four league and cup games
*Their squad this season includes three sets of brothers – only two seasons ago they had seven sets of brothers involved
*They qualified for the AIB Cup by being one of five clubs to progress past the second round of this season’s Munster Senior Cup – they beat Greystones 8-0 in the AIB Cup’s first round at Shannonvale Cross on January 13
*Currently in fourth place in AIB League Division Two, they were Division Three champions last season – this is their sixth term in the league
