Matt O’Regan, the Exiles U19 full-back, made his first appearance for Ireland when he came on in the second half for Ireland U19s v. Wales in Llanelli last Friday evening.
Unfortunately, Ireland was losing at the time (they went down 9-31) but of such experiences are careers made.
Matt was introduced to the Exiles at the National Schools’ Sevens last year, and was invited to the Annual Screening Camp in June, where he caught the eye of Brian McLaughlin (the National Skills Coach) among others. He was recommended to Northampton Saints by the Exiles (for his development and to fit in with his university studies) and has since been a regular for them in the Guinness A League. He played in all the Exiles U19 & U21 fixtures pre-Xmas, where he was seen by Charlie McAleese, the Ireland U19 Coach.
His Irish origins are through his father, who was born and raised in Limerick.
We wish Matt well in his pursuit of many more international honours.
