Clontarf U18s Win Metro League

Clontarf Rugby Club provided yet further testimony of the strength and quality of its youth structures and players when its Under 18s took the Metro League title on Sunday last.

It was won with a stunning display of rugby which saw them beat Wanderers by 58 – 3.

The win gave Clontarf the 3 points they needed to overtake table-toppers DLSP and snatch the League title from the Southsiders grasp by a single point. The Clontarf display was perfectly balanced, with contributions of the highest standard coming from all quarters. A powerful pack, collectively and individually, was complemented by dazzling performances from the backs, with Clontarf`s eight tries coming from both forwards and backs.

In the course of their League campaign, Clontarf notched up 262 points, conceding only 96. One of the more remarkable features of the campaign was a 0-0 draw (a very rare occurrence in any rugby match) against Greystones in appalling weather conditions at the tail-end of November.

The League trophy is the latest in a long line of successes for veteran Coaches Aidan Murray and Colm Carmichael, now in their 11th season of under-age coaching at the Club. Having secured the League title, Clontarf`s Under 18s are now focussing their attention on the forthcoming Metro Cup campaign, which they won last year. The hope in the Northside Club is that this could be the year of a famous double for their Under 18 stars.
