Did you manage to identify our mystery player? Or did your name come up trumps in our Monthly Canterbury Kit Competition?
And the Oscar goes to………
Our Mystery Man caused a few of you some problems, though the hair colour should have narrowed it down a bit.
For those of you who said it was Mark Tainton (the guy in the background) – full marks for knowing his face but no prize.
The most popular choice with 30% of you was Ronan O’Gara but he is not our mystery man.
23% of you thought it was Jerry Flannery and 20% went for Andrew Trimble and Brian O’Driscoll. Whoever thought it was Paul O’Connell really needs to take a good hard look at some pictures!!!
The 20% of you who went with Ireland Captain Brian O’Driscoll are vidicated as he is the mystery man. In the immortal words of a certain film, however, “there can be only one”.
The winner of our guess who competition is Cliona Kennedy who lives in England. Well done Cliona – a goody bag of IRFU merchandise is on the way.
The prizes up for grabs were:
1st: Canterbury Ireland Home Jersey
2nd: Canterbury Ireland Striped Polo
3rd: Canterbury Ireland Cap
The question was:
Who was the Ireland Captain when they beat England 17 – 0 in Lansdowne Road in 1987?
We gave you three choices: Willie Anderson, Philip Matthews and Donal Lenihan. The correct answer was Philip Matthews.
The winners are:
1st Prize – Monica Conway
2nd Prize – Eamonn Waldron
3rd Prize – Niall Corrigan
