Exiles Defend Title At Carrick Sevens

The DHL Exiles 7s squad will be out to defend their title at the Guinness-sponsored Carrick Sevens tournament this weekend with some of Ireland’s emerging talent in their ranks.

The Exiles DHL 7s squad travel to the Carrick Sevens for the second time, this weekend. However, they will travel with only three of the side who won the senior competition last year. London Welsh’s visit to the United States robs the Exiles of experienced Sevens players Matt Cannon, John Swords and Robbie Shaw, while Ireland Sevens international Mark Bruce is in Kinsale this weekend, and London Wasps back rower John-Paul Filler is required for the Guinness ‘A’ League final.

The Exiles will look to the experience of Sevens exponents Jon Skurr, John Feeley and Matt Williams to bring on youngsters Matt O’Regan (Ireland Under-19), David Fenlon (Ireland Under-19 ‘A’), Seamus McKimm (Ireland Under-18 Clubs) and Harry de Stacpoole. Carrick will provide these young players with an opportunity to test their skill levels in the demanding environment of the Sevens game.

The squad will be coached by Kevan Bell and Peter Halsall.

Exiles DHL Sevens squad: Jon Skurr (Sedgley Park), Jon Feeley, Michael Kirkwood (Rotherham Earth Titans), Matt Williams (Pertemps Bees), Matt O’Regan (Northampton), Nick Sharpe (Rugby Lions), David Fenlon (Oxford University), Harry de Stacpoole (North Walsham), Seamus McKimm (RGS High Wycombe).
