The Connacht branch ran a Tag blitz recently with 350 girls from Primary Schools in the region in attendance. See below for more.
The Girls Primary Schools Tag Rugby blitz took place at Salthill Park and Devon Gardens last Thursday. Over 350 girls from Holy Trinity, Scoil Rois, Scoil Ide, Scoil an Linbh Iosa and Scoil Croi Iosa got the chance to show what they had learned over the past year, with teams having three years’ experience under their tag belts!
Wendy Hickey joined the Connacht Branch as a Youth Development Officer three years ago and has been working with both Primary and Secondary Schools in Galway city.
“Tag rugby has been an outstanding success in both the Primary and Secondary Schools. The girls pick up the game so quickly, and will hopefully continue on to play Tag or contact rugby in the future,” Hickey commented.
Minister Frank Fahey presented the Fair Play award to the Chicken Pox team from Scoil Rois, as well as the Player of the tournament award to Abi Dempsey, who is in 4th class in Scoil Rois.
If any of the schools would like to have Tag rugby played in their schools next year, please contact the Connacht Branch at tel: 091 561568.
