The Ireland squad for the fast-approaching summer tour to Argentina are training this week in Limerick ahead of their departure for South America. Coach Eddie O’Sullivan has the majority of his 30-man squad at this week’s camp, with players from Heineken Cup finalists Leicester and Wasps to link up with the tour party next Tuesday.
Wasps duo Peter Bracken and Eoin Reddan and Leicester’s Leo Cullen, Shane Jennings and Geordan Murphy will fly south a few days after Sunday’s Heineken Cup final between the two English clubs at Twickenham.
Commenting on his selection policy for the two Tests against Argentina, Eddie O’Sullivan said: “I think you’ll see quite a bit of change in the team from week to week. The players that are involved in Heineken Cup final this weekend will hit the ground in Buenos Aires on Tuesday and we travel up to Santa Fe the following day. The chance for them to get ready for a Test is limited.
“So the first Test side will probably be based on what we have here (in Limerick) and then, to be fair to those guys (at Leicester and Wasps), you’ll want to give them a shot in the second Test.
“I do see us making as many changes as possible. The whole point is if guys show good enough form, they’re in with a good shout for the World Cup.”
