Interview: Peter McKenna

Rugby World Cup fever was in the air today at Bank of Ireland’s Group Head Office in Dublin as Peter McKenna’s new book ‘Rugby Explained’, which is sponsored by the bank, was launched.

‘Rugby Explained’, an exciting new book, aims to demystify rugby for both new and experienced followers of the sport at a time when rugby in Ireland is experiencing unprecedented support and interest.

This is a first foray into the publishing arena for McKenna, the former Leinster and Ireland full-back/winger, who enjoyed a successful professional rugby career between 1999 and 2003.

McKenna, whose one and only Ireland cap came against Argentina in 2000, was a co-founder of the Irish Rugby Union Players’ Association (IRUPA) and although a qualified solicitor in his own practice, McKenna Durcan, he is also a regular co-commentator for Setanta Sports Ireland and will be featuring as part of their team for the Rugby World Cup.

‘Rugby Explained’, which covers various aspect of the sport including laws, origins of the game, player positions, technical aspects, patterns and set pieces, is published by Blackwater Press and is currently available from Easons and all good bookstores nationwide.
