Low Lie The Fields of Cardiff?

No your ears did not deceive you as you watched the All Blacks and France last Saturday. You did hear a rousing rendition of “The Fields” ring out.

There were quite a few green shirts on display in Cardiff last Saturday. Watching the game on TV, early in the first half before France won our hearts, one could hear a rousing chorus of “The Fields” ring out.

Pundits and commentators alike were bemused, but it was simply a sign that many Ireland fans, who had banked on seeing the lads take the field on Cardiff had decided to travel over despite our early exit. What a game they were rewarded with.

One hardy group of Supporters Club members, ringleaders in the chorus, made the trek to Cardiff via Birmingham.

Birmingham? Yes. When the search was on in early September for flights and accomodation in or around Cardiff one of our members made an offer to the club. Mark Kelly of the Crowne Plaza Hotel, in Birmingham contacted us with an offer that quite a few members took up.

Fly in to Birmingham and stay at the Crowne Plaza at a really good rate for members. Mark then kindly offered to organise a coach transfer to and from Cardiff. In the true spirit of “what goes on tour, stays on tour” Mark reports that a “good time was had by all”.

Thanks to Mark for the great offer and well done to all the members who made the trip to Cardiff and let the world know that we will still support the team no matter what!
