AIB League Audio: Greystones Captain Neil Megannety

It is nearly that time of the year again when the AIB League kicks off and clubs from around the country vie for supremacy in Divisions One, Two and Three. At Wednesday’s photocall at Ely Place in Dublin, IrishRugby.ie caught up with Greystones lock Neil Megannety, who captained the Wicklow men to the Division Two title last term, to hear his views on last season and the 2007/08 campaign ahead.

Greystones had a season to remember in 2006/07 as Colin McEntee’s young charges secured promotion back to the top flight and then went on to defeat Old Belvedere in a thrilling Division Two final at Templeville Road.

The Wicklow club have shown the benefit of having a strong mini rugby and underage section as most of the first team squad have come up through the ranks from mini rugby onwards. Megannety and company begin life in Division One this Saturday with a trip south to Cork side Dolphin.

Journalist Coilin Duffy was on hand at Wednesday’s AIB League captains’ photocall to interview Megannety. Click on the link below to hear the thoughts of the Greystones skipper.
