The Exiles Under-20s went down fighting to the Oxford University Under-21 side recently. The students showed the benefit of the extra year. Read on for a full round-up of the action.
The Exiles paid the price for sticking strictly to the Under-20 dateline against an Oxford XV last Sunday where their pack particularly showed the benefit of ‘the extra year.’ However, a largely entertaining game ensued in the pleasing surroundings of the Iffley Road ground.
Though the Exiles lost 23-7, the try count was one apiece and the Exiles try was the best phase of rugby in the game with three of the side’s former Ireland internationals – Matt O’Regan, an Ireland Under-19 last season, Tom Burns and Matthew Betty, who were both capped at Under-18 level in 2006 – linking, handling and running with style for Betty to score.
Out-half Elliott O’Brien, another former Ireland U-18 international and undoubtedly the Exiles’ man of the match, converted the try.
The next Exiles fixture is this coming Sunday, November 4, versus the Welsh Exiles at Under-18 level, at St. Mary’s University College, Twickenham (kick-off 2pm).
