Celebrating 125 years this season, Blackrock College RFC have marked the anniversary with a number of events including a gala ball and a match against Racing Club in Paris.
A star-studded Blackrock side, featuring players from the past and present, took on the full professional side from Racing Club of Paris earlier this season. Amongst those lining out for ‘Rock were Shane Byrne, Emmett Farrell, Fionn Carr, Des Dillon, Kyle Tonetti and Dave Moore.
Despite losing 50-7, the game, played at the old Olympic Stadium of Stade Colombes, was one of many events to mark 125 years of the Dublin club. They renewed some old ties as well with former ‘Rock and Connacht player Michael Carroll, who is currently playing with Racing Club.
A gala ball at the Ritz Carlton was another signature event which included a presentation to one of ‘Rock’s most noted alumni, Alain Rolland.
Former scrum half Rolland, who played for the school and club and represented Ireland, was selected to referee the Rugby World Cup final in October and the club marked this historic appointment with a special presentation by club President Declan Gardiner.
The club will continue to mark the anniversary with further events in the season.
