Provincial Youth Selection Prepare For Championships

The Irish Provincial Youth selection will undertake a brief tour to Languedoc/Roussillon as part of their build-up to the forthcoming Under-18 European Championships in Treviso, Italy.

The Provincial Youth squad will play two matches against a Languedoc/Roussillon  XV. The links with the region were established last year when Garryowen represented Ireland as part of the Languedoc/Roussillon International Amateur tournament.

Team manager Willie Gribben sees these two games as a vital part of the build-up to the European Championships.

Last season the Provincial Youth Select team did exceptionally well in the European Championships with victories over Georgia and England powering them through to the final, where they lost narrowly to a strong French side in a penalty shoot-out.

The Provincial Youth selection will be coached by Greg Lynch with the assistance of James Duffy.

This year the FIRA Under-18 European Championships will take place in Treviso, Italy from March 15 to 23.
