O’Gara To Miss Munster’s Clash With Ospreys

Although there is no place for Ronan O’Gara in the Munster squad for Saturday’s Magners League encounter with the Ospreys (Musgrave Park, kick-off 7.30pm), the out-half is reportedly making ‘good progress’ as he recovers from the knee injury he sustained against Leinster.

O’Gara limped off at half-time during Munster’s 21-12 league defeat to Leinster at the RDS last Saturday.

He will miss this weekend’s outing in Cork but Munster coach Declan Kidney has revealed that his number 10 is still in the running to feature against Saracens in Sunday week’s Heineken Cup semi-final in Coventry.

Kidney said: “Saturday’s game has come too soon for Ronan to be considered but he is making good progress. At this stage we haven’t ruled him out of consideration for the game against Saracens.”

There is good news regarding scrum half Peter Stringer as he has been included in the extended Munster squad for the Ospreys game.

Stringer had sustained soft tissue damage to his neck and shoulder during the second half of the Leinster defeat.

Also included in the Munster panel are Marcus Horan and David Wallace, the two frontliners who missed the Leinster game, while there are also returns to the squad for John O’Sullivan, Anthony Horgan, Barry Murphy and Keith Earls.

Kidney will announce his side tomorow at lunch-time.

MUNSTER Squad (v Ospreys): Backs (16) – Shaun Payne, Denis Hurley, Doug Howlett, Kieran Lewis, Keith Earls, Barry Murphy, Rua Tipoki, Lifeimi Mafi, Brian Carney, Anthony Horgan, Ian Dowling, Paul Warwick, Jeremy Manning, Tomas O’Leary, Gerry Hurley, Peter Stringer.

Forwards (16) – John Hayes, Marcus Horan, Tony Buckley, Federico Pucciariello, Jerry Flannery, Frankie Sheahan, Paul O’Connell (capt), Donncha O’Callaghan, Donnacha Ryan, Mick O’Driscoll, Alan Quinlan, David Wallace, Denis Leamy, Anthony Foley, John O’Sullivan, Niall Ronan.
