Fresh from helping UCC win the AIB League Division Two title, ‘College’s Sam Cronin and Scott Deasy have both been selected in the Munster squad for this weekend’s Ondeo City of Stirling Sevens tournament.
Scrum half Cronin, the man-of-the-match, and full-back Deasy played their part at Donnybrook last Saturday when UCC beat Young Munster 18-8 to lift their first AIB League play-off crown.
Young Munster flanker Liam Og Murphy has also made the cut for the trip to Scotland.
The Munster squad for the Ondeo City of Stirling Sevens even was chosen from the province’s available Developmen and Academy-contracted players and club players.
The tournament will take place this Saturday at Bridgehaugh in the city of Stirling. It will see some of Europe’s elite clubs go head-to-head in a fantastic all-day event.
This is the first time that Munster Rugby have featured a Sevens side in such an event.
The Munster squad, which is sponsored by Data Space (Scotland) Ltd., will be joined by other professional sides such as London Wasps and Edinburgh Gunners, and the ‘Kenny Logan RBS Private Banking All-Stars’, who will be made up of current English and Scottish Sevens internationals
Munster Rugby will play their first game against the West of Scotland, a Divisional side, with the kick-off at 1.30pm. The outcome of this game will place Munster in the next stage of the competition.
The management and coaching staff includes Ian Sherwin, the Munster Rugby Academy Manager, and Regional Development Officer John Lacey.
They will be joined by Ray Egan (Fitness and Conditioning), Ian Dunne (Kit Manager), Declan Lynch (Physiotherapist) and Ralph Murphy (Munster Rugby Branch Representative).
Other players to watch out for in the Munster squad include Dolphin out-half Barry Keeshan, who kicked Ireland to an AIB Club international win over Scotland one of Division One’s top scorers this season, UL Bohemians’ pair Tommy O’Donnell and Ian Hanly and Shannon’s impressive young flanker Eoghan Grace.
