O’Driscoll Looks Forward To Lions Tour

Brian O’Driscoll has admitted that he has a sense of unfinished business from his curtailed captaincy of the Lions in 2005. O’Driscoll, one of four Lions ambassadors, was speaking to the IRB’s Total Rugby Radio.

“It’s hard to say you would not want to be captain of a side having experienced it already and probably not fulfilled it in the same way that I would have liked, having only played a minute of a Test match.

“But that’s something for much further down the track, certainly not for a year out,” said Brian O’Driscoll when asked about his ambitions for the 2009 Lions tour.

Leinster and Ireland skipper O’Driscoll is one of four Lions ambassadors who were speaking to Total Rugby Radio recently.

The Lions ambassadors represent the four countries that comprise the British & Irish Lions and between them, they have 25 caps for the most famous touring side in rugby. The other ambassadors are Gareth Edwards, Gavin Hastings and Jason Robinson.

O’Driscoll spoke about his curtailed role as Lions captain in 2005 and noted that the terrible injury he suffered and the fact that he missed most of the tour as a result has only whetted his appetite for the next tour.

“What happened in New Zealand certainly hasn’t soured my taste for Lions rugby. I will be as hungry as I have been for any other year to be involved in the tour.

“It’s just something so unique – you can’t compare it to anything else, you can’t compare it to international rugby, you can’t compare it to Barbarians rugby, it stands out on its own and I think that’s what makes it a little bit special,” the Dubliner added.
