Coolmine Unveil New All-Weather Pitches

Coolmine RFC recently unveiled their brand new synthetic all-weather pitches at their Ashbrook base The new facilities were officially opened by IRFU President Der Healy.

Friday, May 16 marked another milestone in the development of their club grounds for Coolmine Rugby Club with the official opening of their synthetic all-weather training pitches.

After many months of planning by committee members, work commenced last May and was completed by September just in time for the beginning of the season.

Now fielding five senior teams and a mini and youths section almost reaching the 400 mark, the synthetic surface provided much needed relief for Coolmine’s two overused grass pitches. The area can also accommodate competitive mini matches.

Divided into two separate areas the synthetic rubber-filled grass surface covers a total area of 5,000 sq mtrs and is fully floodlit.

The largest area can be divided into three separate pitches with retractable goal posts, which facilitates 7-a-side soccer, etc.

Coolmine RFC and the IRFU would like to thank the Minister of Arts, Sport and Tourism for his support to the project.
The opening ceremony was performed by IRFU President Der Healy

Der noted in his speech the progress the club has made in such a short time and praised both members and parents for their time and effort in providing such a great facility.

Contractors for the pitch surface were DT landscaping, floodlighting was provided by Killarney Telecom Communications and the perimeter fencing was erected by Irish Fencing.

A special mention must go to Gordon Wood who fully supervised the project from start to finish.

The pitches are available for private hire, please ring 087-2020840 for further information.
