Tag Finals at Westmanstown and Suttonians

Last night, Westmanstown (Garda RFC) and Suttonians RFC concluded their Budweiser Tag 2008 seasons after a fantastic summer of Mixed Social rugby at its finest……..

Beating weather conditions of truly biblical proportions, Westmanstown and Suttonians leagues were decided in some wonderful displays of Tag.

In Clonsilla, at the Garda Sports Complex, Westmanstown‘s first ever season with Budweiser Tag hosted its Group One vs Group Two Challenge Final. This was an extra competition run following the conclusion of the regular Tag leagues. Teams from the higher grade group played teams from the lower grade played each other for the chest beating rights at the end of season party. This match took place between Bamboozling Tagsters and Dublin City Council with ‘Council’ winning the title 15-4 as light faded fast.
Meanwhile teams such as PayPal Untouchables and Untaggables, Palmerstown Vet Hospital, Irish Sports Council and IT Blanchardstown all pitted their rugby skills against each other as what the refs described as a ‘truly great teams to referee’.

Results for Westmanstown’s inaugural season as follows:

Group 1 Cup – Dublin City Council
Group 1 R/Up – Garda ‘A’

Group 2 Cup – IT Blanchardstown
Group 2 R/Up – Garda ‘B’

Group One v Group Two Challenge – Dublin City Council

Spirit of the Game Award – PayPal

Alan Boyce, Venue Manager for Westmanstown had this to say;
This was a first for not only myself but for the club too and we can now look back, standing proud of the wonderful teams who came to play at our venue week-in, week-out. Also we can readily look forward to next year’s Tag season. Big thanks to all who volunteered to help out and an even bigger thank you to the teams. See you next year!

Meanwhile over in the north Dublin bay area, Suttonians‘ season was being concluded with some very close results indeed.
EYPS followed up on their All-Ireland success with the champions title of Group 1′ league beating Red Barrons 17 points to 16! Well done, Daragh and teammates. In the Group 2 Final, Tag Heurs overcame all the odds and defeated Sutton Crocs 17-14.

The Plate finals didn’t disappoint either. Group 1’s Plate was won by Tic Tags against Tagtonians. The score? 18-17. The Magnets winning the Group 2 Plate was not much easier as they worked hard to defeat Sutton Tradworkers 13-9.

The Runners-Up contest gave a narrow win for ILimpics over Brennan’s Law 8-7 in what was reported as an epic game taught til the end.

And last but not least, the two game aggregate ‘rubber’ between Mads Warriors and Sutton Stealers was decided by a golden try to overturn the 12-10 deficit at the death.

Afterwards it was back to clubhouse for end of season get together and trophy presentations. Well done and thank you to Suttonians RFC and Doug Gibson for running a venue to be very proud of. Not surprisingly, Suttonians RFC was chosen as a prime venue to host the Leinster Provincial Tag Championship which takes place on August 16th.

Registrations are still available but subject to availability.
