The National Level 3 Coaching Course concluded recently at Malahide RFC. There was input from experts in a wide variety of fields and very welcome input from members of the Natal Sharks coaching team.
The second and final stage of the Level 3 Coaching course (Coaching Processes, Management and Leadership ) was recently concluded at Malahide RFC.
Two visitors from the Natal Sharks. Garth Giles (Head, Coach Education) & Charles Louw (High Performance Manager & Vodacom Coach) attended as part of an exchange programme in which they provided a unique perspective throughout the five days.
The topics covered were:
Analysis (Denise Martin, Ireland U20 & Lenny Browne, Ireland U18),
Managing Conflict & Difficult People, (Maurice Dowling – IRFU Director, H.R.), Managing the Media – Journalists (John O’Sullivan – Irish Times),
Managing the Referee (Dave McHugh – IRFU),
Understanding the concept of Power (Laura Purdy – Physical Education Dept. U.L.)
Presenation Skills, Time Management & Meetings (Colin Moran – IRFU),
Learning Styles, Listening Profiles & Sensory Preferences, Player Profiling, Backline Attack (Steve Aboud – IRFU).
International Rugby specific contributions were delivered by:
Kevin Bowring
– Leadership, Development & Coaching (R.F.U. – Head of Elite Coach Development),
Philippe Boher
– Lineout – Developing Decision Making (F.F.R., National U20 Coach),
Franco Ascione
– Attack & Defence (F.I.R., Director – Technico Nazionale), and
Fabrice Brochard
– An Integrated approach to Coaching (Author & ex- National Coach FFR).
The six coaches are now required to undertake the accreditation process over the next 2 seasons which includes aspects of Planning, Management, Coaching and Self awareness and ongoing learning.
