The Ulster Rugby Supporters Club (URSC) have awarded Ulster Academy player Ian Whitten a £2000 bursary. This is the club’s second annual award, now known as the Ulster Rugby Supporters Club Jack Kyle Bursary.
The Jack Kyle Bursary is a demonstration of Ulster Rugby Supporters Club’s commitment to supporting and encouraging emerging talent within the Ulster Rugby Academy.
Iain Campbell, Chairman of the URSC, said: “We are delighted that the 2008/09 Bursary has been awarded to Ian Whitten.
“Ulster Rugby believes that Ian has a big future in the game and we hope that our Bursary will encourage him to greater heights.
“Indeed, it is entirely appropriate that Ian should start his first game for Ulster (against Portugal) in the same week has he receives this award. We will follow his performances with greater interest!
“The Supporters Club has gone from strength to strength over the past few years, and we feel the Bursary is an appropriate way by which we can demonstrate our support for Ulster Rugby in a very tangible and practical way.”
He added: “We are also delighted that the Ulster Rugby Supporters Club Bursary will include the name of the club’s President, Dr. Jack Kyle.
“We have been honored to have a genuine legend of the game as our President over the past few years and thrilled that he has agreed to giving his name to our annual Bursary.”
