Cork Constitution v Shannon Postponed

Saturday’s much-anticipated AIB League Division One meeting of Munster heavyweights Cork Constitution and Shannon was postponed due to an unplayable pitch at Temple Hill.

Match referee Alan Rogan declared the Temple Hill pitch unplayable at 2.15pm after a second pitch inspection, with heavy rain showers having taken their toll.

Stormy conditions had prevailed in the Cork area since the morning and meant that the fixture was in some doubt, but the other Division One game in Cork – Dolphin’s clash with Blackrock College at Musgrave Park – was able to go ahead with the rain stopping shortly before kick-off.

Elsewhere, there were two Division One fixtures abandoned at Templeville Road and Dubarry Park.

The St. Mary’s College v Garryowen tie was abandoned at half-time by referee Simon McDowell due to increasingly bad weather conditions. The score at half-time was 0-0, with hosts Mary’s having played into the gale.

The Connacht derby between Buccaneers and Galwegians lasted just 15 minutes. Buccs were 6-0 ahead at that stage but with a crossbar becoming loose from the posts at one end and weather conditions worsening, referee Richard Kerr called a hault to proceedings.

All seven Saturday games down for decision in Division Three went ahead, but a trio of Division Two ties – Ballynahinch v Highfield, Belfast Harlequins v Clonakilty and Old Crescent v Bective Rangers – were called off due to unplayable pitches.

Details of the refixtures dates will be issued in the coming days.
