This Friday (February 20) will see the inaugural rugby tournament, The Stuart Mangan Cup, played out at Donnybrook (kick-off 6.30pm).
A simple tackle in a club rugby game in London left Stuart Mangan, from Fermoy and a graduate of Rockwell College, UCC and an MBA graduate from École Superieure de Commerce, Paris, aged just 24, with a spinal injury.
Stuart will require 24-hour medical care for the rest of his life. Medical experts have described his spinal injury as the worst to occur in sport.
As part of the ongoing fundraising campaign for the Stuart Mangan Appeal, this inaugural rugby tournament, ‘The Stuart Mangan Cup’, has been organised touching on parts of Stuart’s life – his legal studies, his University, his Masters in European Business and his love of rugby.
Participating teams include UCD Smurfit School Rugby, Law Society of Ireland, Blackhall Baa Baas, King’s Inns, the Royal College of Surgeons and a Stuart Mangan UCC Select XV.
Tickets cost €;10 and are on sale from the Spar shop in Donnybrook.
All patrons who buy a ticket are automatically entered into a draw for two tickets to the Ireland v England RBS 6 Nations game at Croke Park on Saturday week (February 28).
