Leinster Branch Volunteer Of The Month

Leinster Rugby are delighted to announce that Peter Perkins of Enniscorthy RFC has been awarded Leinster Rugby Volunteer of the Month award for January.

Thanks to Enniscorthy RFC for the very worthwhile nomination of Peter Perkins and huge thanks to Peter for his continued dedication to Ennicorthy RFC and Leinster Rugby in general.

Just as Ireland was lucky to obtain a Welshman in St. Patrick, Enniscorthy got their own Welsh Wizard about 1600 years later, in the form of Peter Perkins, who was busy banishing the snakes from Kilcarbery for his first few years in the country.

That task accomplished he turned his hand to the improvement of Enniscorthy RFC.

Peter was first involved with the youths committee as our technical advisor and had great input into regional underage teams and was involved as mentor with South East team which won the Shaggy Cup in 2008.

He was also involved with the Enniscorthy team which won last year’s Under-16 Leinster Cup, a side on which his son, Brendan, featured at full-back.

He also showed great support for under 14 side which won the Leinster League.

Last year, he became a senior committee member and he has displayed his usual drive and leadership in this role.

He immediately took over the refurbishment of dressing rooms, which had gone a bit dingy and were out of sync with the new clubhouse.

Players and coaches alike returned to find the whole area had been transformed with a complete redecoration and some magical touches from our very own druid.

Not resting on his laurels, Peter took over the grounds which he keeps in pristine condition along with the machinery, for same, which has had a new lease of life under his stewardship.

Woe betide anyone who leaves the lights on, water running or fails to lock up on Peter’s watch.

To say he has transformed elements of the club would be an understatement so I would have no hesitation in nominating our own Welshman as clubman of the month.
