Irish Squad Settle In Cardiff Ahead Of Welsh Showdown

Having touched down in Cardiff last evening, the Ireland squad are completing their final day of preparations ahead of Saturday’s hugely-anticipated RBS 6 Nations showdown with Wales.

After the Captain’s Run training session at the Millennium Stadium and the pre-match press conference today, the management and players will wind down their preparations as the hours tick by towards kick-off.

Thousands of Ireland fans have already gathered in Cardiff and many more will travel today and tomorrow in the hope that Declan Kidney’s men can end the country’s 61-year wait for a Grand Slam.

Speaking to Irish Rugby TV in the build-up to the game, head coach Kidney said: “It’s great (to be involved in such a game).

“To be involved in it is such a privilege and it’s such an honour for us. All the players and management are cognisant of that fact.

“But at the same time, we have our job to do which is preparing for a game to the best of our ability.

“The fact that there’s a buzz about it is great. We believe that in the times we’re living in now it’s great that people have something to look forward to.

“I think the real sportsperson will hope that we’ll have a good game, give it our best shot and that’s what sport is all about.”

Prop Marcus Horan added: “This is what you play for, this is what every guy wants to reach. You’ve got to enjoy it because things like this could go by you very quickly.

“If you look back at it then, you forget about the good times you could have had.

“It’s important for us to relish the moments…just have the heads right for Saturdayand have every box ticked as regards our preparations.”
